Produktbeschreibung
The famous French 75mm modèle 1897 field gun fell into the German hands in great numbers after the Fall of France. It was a revolutionary gun when it was introduced before the turn of the 19th century. The M.1897 field gun was fitted with hydropneumatic recoil mechanisms that absorbed most of the recoil and allowed the gun to be loaded, aimed and fired more quickly than any other previous gun.
The famous 75 remained in service long after WWI. Thousands of these reliable guns were upgraded in French service in 1938.
The French modèle 1897 was considered an excellent direct fire weapon by the Germans, and they quickly converted it for use as an anti-tank gun.
Approximately 700 guns were converted between 1941 and 1942 to be mounted on the PaK 38 carriage and trail. A "pepper pot" muzzle brake was added to the end of the gun barrel, and the breach was reinforced.
The Germans designated it the 7.5 cm L.36.3 PaK 97/38 (f).
In Flames Of War -
Upgrading your PaK 38s to PaK 38/97s gives you a harder hitting, but not as rapidly firing weapon. The PaK 38/97 gives you the same range (24"/60cm), but improves the Firepower and Anti-tank ability of your platoon (FP3+, AT10). The only down side it your Rate of Fire is reduced (ROF2).
But generally the upgrade is well worth the effort as it costs no extra points to do so. |
