The Airlanding Rifle Platoon has to be slightly smaller in size, to the standard infantry platoon of squaddies, in order to fit into a Horsa glider. Tough, motivated and well equipped these men are every bit as elite as their parachuting brothers-in-arms.
Indeed, troops from the Airlanding Brigade made up the first British units in action on French soil on D-day, tackling some of the most difficult targets tasked to the 6th Airborne Division.
In Flames Of War -
The Airlanding Platoon can be brought as a support choice for your Parachute Rifle Company. For an additional 145 points they can be used in a Coup-de-Main to strike at the heart of the enemy positions even before the game begins.
Or field them as a seperate Airlanding Company! As Fearless Veteran Rifle/MG teams they are just as tough as their parachuting brothers.
First-up, we've got a terrific history of the 6th Airborne Division focussing on their D-Day exploits. Here, you can read all about such famous actions as the storming of Pegasus Bridge and the Merville Battery, and the men who undertook them - Howard, Otway, Pearson, to name but a few heroes amongst heroes.
Speaking of Pegasus Bridge, next up we've got a double-page photospread showcasing Evan's much anticipated British para figures in a Pegasus Bridge setting. These miniatures look terrific, with their Denison smocks and para helmets, and with such a range of poses, the modelling possibilities are endless.
Next we've got the organisation and equipment for the 6th Airborne Division. Here you've got two choices for your Company type 'a tough-as-nails Parachute Company or a' er' tough-as-nails Airlanding Company. But seriously though, the two companies are quite distinct. If you choose to field an Airlanding Company you'll find the combat platoons are smaller so as to fit in a Horsa Glider. |
