To design a battleship that would fulfill the role of a heavy vessel in the Security Fleets, the Directorate's multifarious ship design companies collated mounds of data on all known battleship chassis. From the new Dindrenzi and Relthoza classes being laid down to order, to cam footage of Terran, Aquan and Sorylian vessels, the scientists poured over all the information they could find to design something that went one stage further.
With the Eliminator and Judgement Classes, the Directorate's scientists believed they had the ultimate in battleship design. Proposed at the same time in the Military Index, the Eliminator and the Judgement had similar capabilities, and with modularity soon proved to be virtually interchangeable. Armed with a variety of beam turrets, fixed fore weapons and torpedoes, the two classes provided weapons loadouts to combat a variety of potential enemies. The addition of the first Directorate shield generator to the mix was a bonus that was soon retrofitted to other ships in the Corporate Fleet.
Thanks to careful branding, the Eliminator would prove to be somewhat more expensive than its counterpart, and earned a reputation as a luxury vessel with which to outfit those Security Fleets that cared about image. This exercise in corporate sleight of hand earned the designers of the Eliminator and their marketing arm a hefty bonus, but neither battleship has seen any drop in demand. They are still laid down fortnightly in the many sweltering factories of such ship-construction giants as Wolve, Harplind and more besides; and serve as visual symbols of corporate might across and beyond Directorate space. |
