M3 'Honey" Stuart (8th Army) - Reliable and robust, the Stuart was nick-named by her British crew the "Honey". Fast and effective as a light recce tank, it served the 8th Army well. Pack conatins 1 Tank, 1 Tank Commander and 1 Dismounted Crew figures.
The Honey, as the British tankers in the desert called it, was a light tank of US design. It was the first American-built tank to see service with the British in the desert. 84 arrived in North Africa to be used by the 8th Army in July 1941. By November 163 were in service taking part in Operation Crusader.
It was well liked by its British crews; hence its nickname the "Honey", as it was such a delight to drive!
The British added a few improvements of their own, including sand-guards and occasionally extra fuel tanks for long-range work.
Its was armed with the US 37mm gun and a co-axial machine-gun, though the British removed the remote driver controlled Sponson machine-guns as they proved in-effective, retaining only the hull MG.
In Flames of War -
The Honey is a handy little tank, fast and packing just enough punch to be dangerous to the unwary German or Italian.
The 37mm gun copes with light targets and can even cause some trouble to the side armour of some heavier targets (Range 24"/60cm, ROF 2, AT 7, FP 5+)
It armour is also not too bad, equivalent of earlier model Panzers and most Italian medium tanks (F3, S2, T1).
Finally the real advantage is its speed, it is just plain fast with its Continental W-670 aircraft engine whirring away in the back (Light Tank: 16"/40cm move on Roads and Cross Country). |
