Produktbeschreibung

The Loyd Carrier was one of the larger of the British tracked carriers. It mechanical components were based on those of the 15 cwt 4x2 Fordson truck from which it took the engine, gearbox and transmission.

All this was placed in a fully tracked lightly armoured steel bodied carrier. The engine was at the rear of the Carrier with the radiator behind. The transmission then took the drive forward to the axle at the very front where it drove the tracks.

Both the front sprockets and idlers at the rear of the tracks were fitted with brakes, operated by a pair of levers by the driver. To turn the vehicle to the left, the brakes were applied on that side and the Carrier would slew round the stopped track.

The armour of the body covered the front and sides, but was open to the rear and top. To protect the occupants from the weather a canvas tilt could be deployed.

The British Army tested the prototype vehicle in late 1939. It was accepted and an initial order for 200 was placed shortly afterwards.

Its original intended role was that of personnel carrier, and the carrier was designated "Carrier, Tracked, Personnel Carrying". Initial deliveries were from the Loyd Company, but production moved to the larger companies such as Ford, Wolseley Motors, Dennis Brothers Ltd, Aveling & Barford and Sentinel Waggon Works. Total production of the Loyd Carrier was about 26,000.

The Loyd was widely used by the infantry for towing 6pdr anti-tank guns and carrying 4.2" mortars.

In Flames Of War -
As mentioned above the Loyd Carrier was primarily used in the late was as a tow vehicle for the 6pdr gun and as transport for the 4.2" heavy mortars. It is used in the following platoons:

- Heavy Mortar Platoon page 69 Festung Europa.
- Anti-tank Platoon page 63 Festung Europa and Anti-tank Platoon,
Royal Artillery page 77 Festung Europa.

Loyd Carrier has Half-tracked mobility and Armour F0, S0 and T0.
