The Red Army smashed the German Army Group Centre's front line in Operation Bagration. Now their relentless westward advance across Byelorussia threatens Minsk, the capital of Byelorussia.
From Orsha in the north the 5th Guards Tank Army swings south. Its hammer blows smash every German attempt to slow its advance.
The 1st Mechanized Corps cuts up from the south to meet them. Scything through Bobruisk, its sickle cut sweeps north. Both pincers will meet at Minsk.
As the crisis unfolds, Berlin sends Generalfeldmarschall Model to stop the Soviet advance. Every available soldier is thrown into the battle in improvised blocking forces.
The 5th and 12th Panzer Divisions race to the front. Their battlegroups head straight to the front as they arrive, reinforcing the blocking groups where the need is greatest.
