With the release of the T30 we have yet another great American halftrack, I think that the Pacific Theatre Gamers will be very happy with this baby, especially all the Marine fans. However for me it's a welcome addition to my recon company. Now I can start on the recon units in earnest.
The T30 mounted the short M1A1 75mm howitzer in the M3 Halftrack, they first saw action in North Africa and later in Sicily. Of the 500 built, some were supplied to the Free French and these vehicles later saw combat in Indochina. The T30 was primarily used in a reconnaissance role and in Close Support of Infantry when a decent sized HE round could make the difference between a successful attack or failure.
In Flames of War I would tend to use the T30 in a support role for the infantry and recon companies. It has a useful range for artillery indirect fire and can also be used in a direct fire role as well. Use the T30 to pin a target prior to an assault from your infantry teams.
With frontal armour of 1 these vehicles need to be kept out of the way of enemy return fire but if you're an American player you'll already know that. |
