Universal Carrier, No 1 MkII - The Universal Carrier was a versatile tracked vehicle that was adapted easily to a variety of roles. Such as cargo, recon, mg carrier and more. Pack contains 2 Carriers and 6 Crew figures.
Vickers first introduced the Machine Gun Carrier into British service in 1936. It soon became the prototype for all the Machine Gun, Bren and Universal Carriers. This first model was known as the Carrier, Machine Gun, No.1, Mk I. It was crewed by three and dispensed with the idea of carrying an independent machine gun team.
Instead incorporating the vehicle and crew into the machine gun team, making them able to operate with or independent from the vehicle.
With the appearance of the Carrier, Universal No.1 MkII in 1943 alterations were made to the stowage and crew seating. It also featured a welded waterproof hull. Stowage types were dependent on the role of the vehicle.
The Carrier, Medium Machine Gun No.1 MkI entered service in 1943 with the Motor Machine Gun Battalions. This was the original Universal Carrier MkI converted for the MMG role. The Carrier, Machine Gun, No.1 MkII (BR212) adopted the Universal Carrier MkII welded hull.
The Carrier, Armoured, OP (Observation Post), No1, MkI was first issued in 1939; it was based on the Carrier, Scout MkI.
The later Carrier, Armoured, OP, No.1 MkII (BR212) was constructed on the Universal Carrier MkI riveted hull with a variety of modifications to the engine cover, front armour and stowage details for the cables reels and telephone equipment. The Carrier, Armoured, OP No.1 MkIII was the next model and was the first carrier variant to be based on the welded hull of the Universal Carrier MkIII.

The MMG Carrier can be found transporting your MG Platoons in either your Motor Rifle Company or Rifle Company.
These platoons can be upgraded from their 15cwt trucks to MMG carriers giving them added protection and cross-country speed.
You can also fire your MMG carrier's Vickers Machine-gun while mounted:
An HMG team carried as passengers in an MMG Carrier may fire their machine-gun as a hull-mounted vehicle machine-gun as long as the vehicle does not move. The HMG team cannot dismount in the turn in which it fires.
The OP Carrier also offers added protection to its passengers. The added mobility of the OP carrier allows the Observation Teams from your 25pdr batteries to move about the field with speed spying out new targets to observe and range in on. The observer can call in the artillery from the OP carrier (but not while moving) or they can dismount to take advantage of terrain and cover. |
