Play Soviet Dawn and see!
Soviet Dawn is a solitaire game of the Russian Civil War from 1918 to 1921. You control the Bolshevik leadership as they try to solidify their authority after the October Revolution. With the backdrop of World War I raging and concluding, the challenges are many. Incursions by the forces of Imperial Germany and later from Allied nations (UK, USA, France and Japan) compound your decisions. Internal counterrevolutionary elements, breakaway regions, Independent and Anarchist uprisings and a new Polish state are some of the many issues that require you to make the right moves. And to make things even more interesting throw in the fate of the Czar and the multiple personalities of Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin and many others.
Cards enter play in three Epochs; Twilight which represents the time while still engaged in World War 1, Darkness which represents a time when World War I is concluding, and Dawn the period after World War I when the effects of the Russian Civil War are being determined.
Cards drive the play in Soviet Dawn. They generally present an event that must be applied and/or resolved. Then the cards list the fronts that move towards Moscow which represent the forces aligned against you and the Revolution. After advancing fronts you are provided a number of Soviet actions that may be used for offensives against enemy fronts, attempts at adjusting political status, and attempts to reorganize the Red Army to make it stronger. Some events are resolved during a Political Dissent Phase that follows the Soviet actions.
The cards advance the forces aligned against you, which are on named fronts, and provide you with choices to stop their progress.
The advancement of fronts is shown along their tracks on the game board. When a front enters Moscow the game ends, causing a military defeat for you.
