Similar to Cults of Prax, this greatly expanded its scope to include most of Glorantha, which is a huge advantage. The cults are less defined, less historical, and more game mechanic oriented, but you get many more cults, most for the first time. This weakness has been reduced with detailed writeups in subsequent products, like River of Cradles, etc. Any book that can fit all the Lightbringer cults onto less than 5 pages has a serious problem. This was built mainly for rules oriented people. Contents are:
Read Me First, 20 pgs. Contents list with "What the Priests say" for: Elves, Dwarves, the East Isles, Lunars, Malkionism, Orlanthi, Pamaltelans, the Wastes, and Trolls. A good "why you're here" overview of each of the pantheons and one of the best additions.
Prosepaedia , 20 pgs. This is a veritable who's who of Gloranthan mythology. A solid 200+ entity listing from A to Z, with a few omissions, but also many new ones.
Gloranthan Calendar, 12 pgs. Contains the five seasons and Sacred Time laid out in standard calendar format. All Holy and High Holy days are marked. Reprinted in Heroes.
Gloranthan Gods, 84 pgs. Holy cow. What a major listing of gods, spells, skills, and cults. Too bad it's a bland read with little cult background. The first section includes a Jrusteli monomyth of Gloranthan religions. Each pantheon has a demographics chart and brief overview. The next section has standard cult requirements for initiates, priests, runelords, and acolytes. The rune metals and allied spirit portions are interesting, but skeletal. The indexing is great. |
