As the battle develops, Paratroopers wil want access to more and more fire support to take the objectives. The first cab off the rank are the four M1 81mm mortars of the Battalion's Parachute Mortar Platoon.

Mortars are the obvious choice as a support weapon for airborne operations. They are light, quick and easy to set-up and the crew transport all they need themselves.
Having immediate high-explosive firepower on hand is vital for the Paratroopers who will often have to hold an objective for quite sometime before relief from ground forces can arrive.
